PTP - 01 Practical

Petroleum Geology

Determination of Bulk Porosity, Shale Factor, Refractive Index of Organic compound, etc. Estimation of Optical Activity of Organic compounds. Megascopic Studies of Sedimentary, Metamorphic and Igneous rocks with respect to grain size, cement, porosity and permeability. Core sample studies, studies of rock cuttings, etc. Surface tensions of Reservoir fluids and Panel Diagrams.

Sedimentology

Megascopic and Microscopic studies of Sedimentary rocks. Recognition, Morphology, classification, genesis, environmental significance of different sedimentary structures. Size analysis and Pipette analysis, Graphical representation of data of size, frequency and distribution. Heavy mineral analysis, separation of heavy minerals, identification & geological significance of heavy minerals, shape and roundness studies, etc.

Micro-palaeontology

Separation of microfossils from the matrix of Sedimentary rocks. Separation, picking and mounting of microfossils. Study of morphology, coiling, arrangement of chambers, ornamentation, classification, description, composition, distribution (environmental and geological), distinguishing features of different selected genera of Foraminifera, Ostracods, Radiolarians, Pollens and Spores, etc.

Prospecting

Interpretation of Geophysical data obtained from the following methods: - a) Self Potential Method b) Electric Resistivity Method c) Magnetic Method d) Seismic Refractory & Reflection Method

Problems on Conversion factors, Mole, Pound Mole, Perfect Gas Law, Specific Gravity of gases, Permeability, Non-ideal or Real gases, Gas deviation factor, Gas in Place by Volumetric method, Initial Oil in Place by Volumetric method, Unit Recovery for Volumetric Gas Reservoir, Unit Recovery for Gas reservoir under Water drive, Formation Volume Factor, Viscosity, Fluid flow in Reservoir, Radial flow equations, Material balance equations for Combination drive, Material balance equation for Volumetric Under-saturated Oil Reservoirs, etc. Demonstration - Practical use of Planimeter.

Petroleum Geo-chemistry

Determination of Relative fuel value of Petroleum products, Relative Viscosity of Reservoir Fluids, Composition of unknown hydrocarbon mixture with the help of pH meter, Sodium in a binary mixture by Flame photometry, Calcium in a binary mixture by Flame photometry, Potassium in a binary mixture by Flame photometry and to find out the composition of the unknown hydrocarbon mixture with the help of Viscometer. Estimation of Water in Natural gas by Graphical method and Detection of hydrocarbon on rocks by Fluorescence detector.

Well Log Analysis
